Finding a Place to Call Home: The Indonesian-Australian Experience.

Updated: Feb 6, 2021

2020 Submission for Australia- Indonesia Youth Association

[SYD - CGK: To be Everywhere and Nowhere].

(Now published by the Australia-Indonesia Youth Association 2020 Annual)

An ode to the little third culture kid in me. My submission consists of a short photo essay regarding my interpretation of the Australian-Indonesian experience. Growing up as a third culture kid and moving around every 3 years across the world, I've always felt like a citizen of everywhere and nowhere. This experience is particularly jarring in my experience living in Sydney, a country geographically so close to Indonesia and yet, so different in so many wonderful ways.

Therefore, my submission is meant to capture that restless experience of not quite finding where you belong but you continuously try to build a home wherever you are. The submission is a photo essay titled: (SYD-CGK: This place could be our home). I've attached the main piece of the submission. These are all photos of myself with the Balinese traditional costume coming from my elementary years in Jakarta and the recent photo is of me and the Sydney Skyline.
